Stephenville Reunion 2011

As reported by: Joyce Hill, RPN Staff Reporter, Brownwood, Texas

Stephenville Reunion June 4, 2011

Another year has come and gone and only 57 retirees and spouses gathered at the city park in Stephenville, Texas. Due to a lot of deaths and health problems, our group gets smaller each year.

It was good to see and visit with those who were able to come. Lunch was spread about 1130 and Charlie Sessions gave the blessing. Again we want to thank Erie Boulcher for taking care of everything. We agreed we would meet again next year at the same time and place. The day is always the first Saturday in June. We hope to see as many as possible who are able to come.

Our prayers go out to those who are in bad health. Our sympathy to all the families who lost loved ones this past year.

Now to the happening across the park! Jack and I arrive on Saturday, the 28th. Some had been there all week. We were met by Charlie Session and Clyde Warren who helped us get the trailer set up. We are so blessed to have such great friends.

Those who were already at the park were Hazel and Charlie Session, Clyde and Faye Warren, Bobby and Corine Egger, Helen and Jerry McNeese, Jane and Jim Cowan, Gale and Betty Morris.

Charlie was still fussing about my last write up. But he should not gripe because I didn’t print the whole story. After Clyde helped us, he was brave enough to take 4 of the ladies out to the Chicken House Flea Market. Think they have a garage sale or two. They forgot to tape Jane Cowan’s mouth because she talks to everyone. One lady she talked to came out to the park three or four times. Brought her husband out twice. She thought we were such a Joyful group!!!!

When we arrived the ladies had a craft project going… They were making jewelry out of potatoes. Sounds awful but they made some very pretty things. They really gave a lot of business to the lady at the bead store!!! I called the ladies the “Tater girls.” I forgot to mention that the McNeese’s daughter Cathy and her friend from Arlington were out visiting. They had made some other necklaces from beads also. They gave all of us one. But by the time I got over there they had picked out the pretty ones and wouldn’t trade with me. Selfish ladies!! But all joking aside I got a very pretty one … Thanks Cathy and Rhonda.

Sunday afternoon about one fifteen we heard a loud pop. Well Charlie was working on his RV. So we figured he blew up something. Electricity went off all over the park. But it wasn’t Charlie’s fault. We began to try to reach someone. A call was put to the Police Dept. and they said they would check it out. Calls were made to Oncor but all you could get was “press this or that”. I finally got a person but she wanted a physical address and meter number. Gale got a number off the post but she said it wasn’t the right one. Cathy used to work for Oncor so she knew how to get the meter number. She finally got a person and gave it to her. It was about 8:30 when the man came out and got it fixed. He was on call but no one had called him until about a hour before he came. Great Police Dept in Stephenville!!!!

Betty Morris was painting her potatoes and got paint on her white shorts. Well she said it was paint. Messy girl. If you are near Bobby Egger, please don’t leave your money laying by your chair because he will swear he didn’t get it… But he did!

Max and Nelda Anderson arrived at the park on Monday. Tuesday morning Max fixed pancakes for everyone. They were so good. But, Max where were the pecans? Everyone had finished eating before Charlie got out. He had to take a shower first. Couldn’t tell it helped him any!

On Wed. afternoon the ladies were invited out to the Boulcher home for Tea. Thanks to Ruth for having us. It is always a pleasure to hear Ruth and her stories. Their place is so pretty out there.

Then Helen and Jane left the park and were gone to way after dark. We were all suspicious as to what and where they were. They said a Drug run…Well, don’t be misled, they were waiting at WalMart for Helen’s medication to arrive…That’s their story and they are sticking to it.

Poor Jerry McNeese went off again by himself. Left his car running and locked his keys inside. He took the part of his key that he thought would open the door off his key chain but WRONG it wouldn’t open the door. So he had to call Helen to come to his rescue. What would these men do without their wives??

The wind blew all week. Hard to play cards. When we did we had to place rocks on them. We played Chicken Foot and 42. But wind blew the dominoes over. But we did mange to get in a few games.

One afternoon Booby and Corine treated the group to ice cream treats. Everyone enjoyed them. Thanks, Eggers.

The Warrens had to leave at noon on Friday for their family reunion. We hated to see them leave. Faye says next year they are staying for their family reunion. On Friday night we usually go out to the big shed but not many showed up. Those who did come just came to where we were parked. Those who came out on Friday night were Margaret and Norman Hicks, Jimmy and Charlene Stewart, Eddie and Linda Westbrook, Bob and Billie Norord, Erie Boulcher, Lila Driver. We enjoyed meeting with all of them.

While Hazel was greeting everyone with hugs, she lost her expensive earring (one made from the potato). Everyone looked and looked but couldn’t find it. When she sat down she said “OH!” and found her earring down the front of her blouse. But she wouldn’t let Charlie reach down and get it….Poor Charlie lost out again!!

That’s about it for this year…Hope to see everyone next year in Stephenville. Come early if you can, you would really enjoy it. Every one stay healthy.

May God Bless everyone who read this and those who didn’t too…
